Advent Tree

Advent Tree

I am kicking off my Christmas in July posts with this darling little wall hanging that I turned into an advent calendar!

Advent Tree is my newest pattern, and it is FREE!

After piecing the quilt, I added some red buttons— And then every day in December counting up to Christmas, I can hang a little charm on each button. On the 24th I hang the final charm—a star for the top of the tree!

I did have a little trouble finding Christmas themed charms in the middle of the summer. But I am sure there will be plenty available as it gets closer to the holiday. I have also seen sets of them online, but of course, I didn’t order in time, so I am stuck for now with just what I could find. You get the idea. I used a silver cord to hang them, but I think that a couple strands of embroidery floss or perle cotton would have been better—it would hang nicer.

You can see here that I didn’t find enough charms—so it looks like it is about December 13th! Except that I hung the star on top so you can see it.

You can get your FREE pattern on my website HERE. Better yet,—we have put together a kit with all of the fabrics and backing and binding and buttons! You can get your kit HERE.

I know you are going to love making this project. With a few half-square-triangles and some simple piecing, you will have it whipped up in a jiffy.

Those half-square-triangles are awesome, aren’t they?! They are so simple and used in so many quilt designs. And they are perfect for our little Advent Tree!

Get your kit, and sew up your Advent Tree so that you will be ready on December 1 to hang your first charm!

Merry Christmas in July!!!
