Gracious Grove Sew Along -- Week 9

Gracious Grove Sew Along -- Week 9

Well, here we are again for another appliqued block. This week we are doing Block 7.

Version A

Version A

There are two blocks to make, one with a pink flower, and one with an orange flower. You know the tricks now. Prep your pieces, and your bias tape. Use your Placement Diagram for Block 7 to layout all your pieces onto your background square. Glue baste in place.

Remember that I find it helpful to glue together some of the pieces that overlap to create an applique unit—like the central flower in this photo:

My orange flower petals are all glued to the flower center to create a unit.

Having the petals all glued together makes it easy to place the pieces. When I did this block, I was in the middle of making Orange Rolls. You can find my recipe HERE. That’s funny—today I am in the middle of making Cinnamon Rolls! Weird. There must be something about this block that makes me want to bake rolls of some kind!

This block truly is one of my favorite blocks in the quilt. Such a happy flower!

I think I like the symmetry. If you don’t know it by now, I love it when things are balanced and, well, —symmetrical! That’s why so many of my quilt designs are square. There is something finished or complete about a balanced quilt.

Ooops. I hear the oven timer beeping—gotta go get those Cinnamon rolls!

Bye for now— Next week we do the LAST block!
