Follow the Blue Bird

Riley Blake Designs has release a really fun new collection—and it’s a collaboration of lots of the designers. We each designed a low volume print with a white, cream or off white background to be part of this collection.

To promote this collections, Riley Blake is having a Sew Along! Follow the Blue Bird is the name of it. There’s a free pattern for you to download on the RBD site. Each designer will have a day to showcase their take on this design challenge. The FREE bird pattern is available in three techniques: Traditional, Applique, and Paper Foundation piecing. You can get the patterns HERE.

I chose the applique pattern, and I made a couple of cute blocks using my print from Hush Hush for the background, and some Riley Blake Kisses fabrics for the bird.

They turned out pretty cute, right ?! I filmed a tutorial for you on the Riley Blake YouTube channel. I’ll walk you through my method for doing applique. You can view the tutorial here:

I think I might make those blocks into pillows, That would be fun.

But then, I wanted to use my new fabric, Petals & Pedals to make a project for Follow the Blue Bird. So I designed this little table runner.

I think I’ll call it TREETOPS.

It’s not done yet, because I haven’t finished stitching, and I need to get it quilted, but you can see it here on my design wall after I added the borders. That floral just ties everything together!

I think it is going to be so cute! I can’t wait to get it all done. Don’t you just love how all the fabrics play together? They are so different, but because I used ALL of them, it looks like they belong!

I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of the beautiful Hush Hush fabrics! I can’t wait to see what YOU design with them. Ask for these fabrics in your local quilt shop!
